David Seah - Better Living Through New Media : 2006 Downloads for The Printable CEO
I love nifty productivity tools — cause I’m a big geek. I find that most of them actually tend to cause me to waste time on a collosal level, because I’m having so much time getting organized. I’m much more a Palm Pilot fan, since I think we all waste far too much paper — but The Printable CEO has potential.
My studio doesn’t do billable hours, mostly, anymore so sometimes my boss has a hard time tracking productivity. This really would be an interesting experiment to have the staff use this for a couple of weeks and see how we do. I know that with my role, I would find myself with lots of 1s and 2s some weeks. I keep trying to find 5s and 10s, but it really depends on the week. I do work hard to make the research I’m doing turn into a “concrete planning or accounting,” but quite often the ideas are used more for business development than billable work.
One recent exception where a 1 turned into a 10, was the research I was doing on all the new online mapping technologies and hacks/mash-ups that are being created. Right as I was analyzing the trends and available technologies for pros and cons, we had a client who needed this technology. The discussions were about custom developing a product, since Google Maps really didn’t seem to do what the client needed, and I was able to save the day
