My Post-Benefit Tribute to Carol Drennan
March 5, 2007
My first weekend getaway of the year – flying solo, but with a wedding ring. On the way to my hometown, but staying in a hotel like a tourist. Going to see old friends, with whom I had not kept in touch. Thus began my trip home for a benefit to honor the memory of Carol Drennan, my high school drama director who recently lost her battle against lupus.
What I Learned While Planning My Wedding
November 13, 2006
Let me start by saying, I had one kick a@# wedding! My husband and I blended cultures, music, food and almost 400 people. We set the bar culturally for a whole generation of our region’s inter-ethnic couples. It was the best of many worlds, and all the planning and attention to detail that went into it seemed to be appreciated, if not entirely understood.
I learned a lot during the planning process, both about myself and the people around me, but there are two realizations that have changed my outlook on life. The first is that, even though it’s scary, you have …
Brazilian Bikini Wax
July 9, 2006
I got one for the first time. It hurt like nothing I have ever experienced. It wasn’t even the “Brazilian” part - just the regular bikini line was excruciating!
It didn’t look like it hurt nearly that much on Sex in the City…
(for those of you who don’t know me, I’m joking about the Sex in the City part)

Since When Is “White” an Ethnicity?
Recently, a friend was telling me about a wedding he attended where the groom was Persian and the bride was “white.” It struck me as odd that he used an ethnicity to describe one half of the couple and a color to talk about the other. When I asked him more about the bride, he said, “Oh, yeah, she’s from England.”
I Bought People Magazine…

To see the pictures of Angelina, Brad, and Shiloh. I love Angelina Jolie. She’s so unapologetically herself.

“Why Not?” Friends
June 8, 2006
I’m glad I have people in my life who ask me “why not?” when I make excuses about why I can’t do something.

Anger Management
May 23, 2006
So I guess, now is as good a time as any to mention the fact that I am planning a wedding…my own, to be precise. As event planning is part of my 9-5 gig, I gave all of my engaged friends hard times when they complained about the trials and tribulations of coordinating their “Big Day.” Now I understand that they were talking not about linens and china, but about the family politics that infiltrate every noun, verb, and adjective of wedding planning.
Baked ‘n Wired
March 23, 2006
Baked ‘n Wired on Thomas Jefferson St. in Georgetown has the most amazing baked goods. Just when I thought the Cardamom Coffee Cake was my favorite thing ever, the seasonal cherry pie came on the scene. It is truely life changing.
Beginning to Write
March 12, 2006
Spring is the season of new beginnings. Blooming flowers and budding leaves create a feeling of possibility that awakens after the dormancy of winter. It is the perfect time to start a new project, find a new job, or plan for your future…all of which I am in the middle of doing. Perhaps most relevant for right now is the new project. If you’re reading this right now, you’ve stumbled upon it.
